Optical Illusion Showcase

Interactive optical illusions you can pull apart: the Thatcher effect applied to your own photo, the stepping feet illusion, an animated Müller-Lyer, an induced contrast checkerboard, Segments (a ring that seems to turn without anything moving), and a chromostereopsis chessboard. Each one lets you change the parameters until the effect breaks, which is the quickest way to see how it works.

Chessboard Pearl and indigo marbles rain onto a chessboard and float clean off the surface — chromostereopsis doing the depth work. Tune the grid and export it with sound.

Dynamic Müller-Lyer Every line is the same length. Sweeping arrowheads stretch and shrink them anyway — in a column, as a travelling wave, or around a ring. Reveal proves the ends never move.

Induced Contrast Every circle on the board is the same grey at every instant. The square underneath decides whether it looks light or dark. Hit Reveal the Truth and the board fades away to prove it.

Segments FEATUREDAre the segments moving? Each one only changes shade, never position, yet the ring seems to turn. Fix your eyes on the centre cross and watch it go.

Stepping Feet Two blocks slide at exactly the same constant speed, perfectly in step. The stripes behind them make one look like it stops and waits for the other.

Thatcheriser Upload a portrait and it finds the eyes and mouth and flips them. Horrifying the right way up, weirdly fine upside-down — that gap is the Thatcher effect.
